Abstract Collage Commission for Straits Row, Chicago

In 2024, a curator at Indiewalls asked me to create a large-scale collage for a co-working space for the Straits Row apartments in Chicago's Printers Row neighborhood. The client wanted artwork that related to the history or techniques of printmaking.

The request was for a 60” x 48” collage on a 2” cradled panel, a much larger sister piece to one I’d made and sold the prior year.

Once we’d established the parameters, I went to work and letterpress-printed the vintage papers in the colors they’d chosen.

For a building in a neighborhood named for Chicago’s printing trade, the papers were printed on my century-old press.

I photographed them all, and the client approved the papers before I began work on the piece.

As the piece progressed and we shared more images with Indiewalls and the client, I made a few requested revisions before the piece was approved and shipped (using four rolls of tape and all the cardboard in my studio).
