Collage, Printmaking, and Writing

2026 In-Person Workshops

I teach in-person workshops in abstract collage, letterpress printing, and writing for artists — at art centers, galleries, and studios across New England and beyond. Each workshop is hands-on and unhurried, designed for artists at any level who want to work with vintage materials, learn to print with wooden type, or find their way through a creative block. Upcoming workshops are listed below.

Make a Beautiful Mess

A Day of Guided Experiments in Mixed-Media

August 17th, 10 am -3 pm

August 18th, 10 am -3 pm (Waitlist)

A single day of permission to play. Students cycle through techniques — gelli plate printing, marbling, letterpress printing, monoprinting, and mark-making — experimenting freely with whatever paper they bring or find at their table. There is no “right” result. The point is to observe what the materials do and create lots of collage papers.

Students make a simple pamphlet book at the start of the day. By the end, they will fill it with trimmed paper samples and handwritten technique notes — a reference they can return to in their own studios.

No collage. No finished piece. Just a day of making messes, keeping notes, and leaving with something worth keeping.

Abstract Composition with Vintage Materials

November 9th from 9-3

What makes a collage feel balanced? What gives it movement, or a sense that every piece belongs exactly where it is? This workshop answers those questions.

Over the course of a single day, you'll work with vintage papers, book pages, ledger sheets, maps, stamps, and envelopes to build small abstract compositions. A central premise of this workshop is that the materials themselves are compositional tools. Each collage focuses on a core principle of visual design: movement, balance, emphasis, and harmony. By the end of the afternoon, you'll have a body of work and a new way of seeing. Throughout the day, student work is connected to the broader history of collage and abstract art.

Interested in hosting my workshops?

I offer half-day, full-day, and multi-session workshops in abstract collage, letterpress printing with vintage wooden type, and writing for artists. I've taught at art centers, galleries, online, and at community studios throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and I'm always interested in new venues and partnerships.

If you represent an arts organization, gallery, or studio space and are looking for a workshop instructor, I'd love to hear from you.
