Each piece here is an original — an abstract collage and mixed-media work made in Sarah Z Short’s Rhode Island studio from vintage materials salvaged from estate sales, antique shops, and the discard piles of other people's lives. Letterpress printing with antique wooden type adds a second layer: bold letterforms abstracted into shape and rhythm, pressed into the surface on a century-old press. These are works for collectors who want something on their walls that rewards a longer look.
