Studio Views

I have two Pinterest boards where I collect images of studio spaces. One collection is full of dreamy spaces full of beautiful storage, light, and interesting objects. The second collection is my reality check. This is where I store working spaces that are full of the chaos of creation. I think my space is a mix of the two.

We have a large basement with tall ceilings that I’ve claimed as my studio. It’s unfinished and unheated, but I love it. Would I also be happy in a free-standing structure I designed as a studio? Why, yes I would. But since that’s not happening any time soon, I make what I have work.

Light

There are two small windows in the walls and the bulkhead, which I keep open when I can. I added a magnetic screen to keep out insects. We’ve added additional ceiling lights and I have several lamps.

Space

My studio furniture is a hodgepodge of items that I’ve collected. I prefer vintage items, such as one of my work tables and my drafting table, but I also have lots of Ikea pieces.

Function

This is where I keep my letterpress supplies and the bureau stores odds and ends that I don’t often need. I sourced all of these pieces through estate sales and antique stores.

Wet Media

This table is where I work with paint. I have my printing press and gelli plate supplies here. On the wall is one of my design boards.

A bit of everthing

It’s not pretty, but it’s functional.

Inspiration Board

The items that inspire my current work are pinned to a board on the wall.
