I’m hesitant to add marks onto an almost finished piece for fear of making a mess, but I was wondering if I could add some circular elements to balance out the other circles already in the piece. It isn’t rare or historically significant, but now, printed with paint and used in a collage, it becomes interesting. The text from another book that I added was abstracted to look like railroad ties. This wasn’t a purposeful decision, but something I noticed after the piece was complete. The areas to revise are in the same section as the first piece because I somehow create paired pieces with matching grid structure compositions. The lumps in this one are more serious, and I take out a T-Square and Exacto knife and excise a large section. Total fail. Pantone books do not work for mixing acrylic paint colors. You need a scale to measure out your colors, and certain mixes of color to begin with (and what is transparent white??). I wanted to create collages that used the fabrics I had dyed. I had materials and a color palette, but that’s it. I decided to create a lot of small works on paper (6x6 inches) that I could pin up on the design board. I could work with small pieces of the fabric, try lots of compositions, and decide what other materials complemented the fabric.
